The luxurious long haired persian cat breed will bring a smile to your face and have you instantly wanting to gently pet their soft hair and cheerfully rub their cheeks. Persians are a medium to large cat with a thick stocky build. Their hair tends to make them look larger than they really are. The Persian’s signature look, aside from their long plush, silky fur is their unique flat face and big round, doleful eyes, furry paws and short thick tail. They can typically weigh up to 12 pounds and come in a different colors and patterns. Common colors being silver, white, cream and black, blue, smoke and patterns will characteristically be solids, calico, bicolor, tricolor, Eye color can vary from blue, green copper, hazel and odd-eye color. Persians are a gentle, quiet cat and typically will not demand attention. Though, they are known to demand attention from those that spoil and coddle them. However, like most cats they will get bouts of energy and will appreciate interactive play with toys along with its household members.

Persians are not overly active, hence play time should be incorporated as a daily requirement for this breed to keep them at a healthy weight and physically fit. Though not as curious as other feline breeds, they still like to explore and lounge by a windowsill with a view to the outside world. This breed enjoys to be petted and being paid attention to. They will return their affection to you by being your loyal companion, which will entail sitting next to you wherever you are, relaxing in your lap or cozying up to you under your bed covers. These felines are friendly with all people and have an easy going temperament. Basically, Persians can live well with beginner owners, families with children and in multi-pet homes.

Persian need to be groomed daily to prevent their coat from matting and to keep hairballs at a minimum. Regular baths are also recommended to keep their long, shimmery hare in top condition as well. Therefore, it is recommended to be keep Persians indoors so that their coat does not become damaged or dirty. The history of the Persian is at best not as clear as we would like, due to the fact that they are a vintage breed. However, they were discovered in the Middle East in the 1600s by an Italian traveler and were brought to Italy in the same era. More Persian cats were brought from Turkey into France by a French astronomer and then the breed made their way to Britain by other travelers. They became popular in the 19th century in Britain with Queen Victoria owning two blue Persians. Persians then came to the United States in the late 1800s and were officially recognized by the Cat Fancier Association in 1914. The Persian cat breed is happy to say that they are currently one of the most popular breeds of cats own in the United State and around the world.
